ALL HAIL THE ANSWERS THAT YOU PROVIDE! -Kit Car Comparo Help

    Need a hand with this.

I haven't posted in a long time and I know it's probably a rather dumb question I am going to ask, so here it is...

Is it possible to find a -

    1. Kit Car (turnkey option)

    2. for a low cost (lets say a generic currency equivalent to 12,000 U.S. Dollars)

    3. that is a Hard Top or with a removable Hard Top

Design and style are of no regard. I want to see what we come up with then compare style, design, and power (or possible power ), drivetrain, hot/cold weather sustainability, etc etc etc etc etc... you know the usual.

Hope to get this comparo under way because there has to be a hidden gem out there that exists besides a caterham.

Quantum used to make the Coupe that had a hard top, now the closest thing they do is the 2+2.

GTM make the Libra. That has a removable roof panel. My Dad has one.

Lastly (for now) there is the Veranti Coupe, but I can't find the manufacturer website for it.

WHere are you ? ( PLease put it in your profile and then it never has to be asked again ! )

BECAUSE, that can limit which kit cars can be considered.

How new a car are you looking for and do you want it garage serviced or be doing it yourself ??

Hey matra, apologies about the location thing, I just like to be private and lets not let servicing be an issue. (<-edit)

Oh no I am not looking by any means whatsoever. I just fathomed the idea when I was looking through an old magazine I had from the 80's in the basement.

But to discover a vehicle that can be had for the equivalency of 12,000 U.S. Dollars, 7,500 quid or 8,500 euros that is a hardtop and not having to worry about rain or cold weather when one is out simply enjoying a good corner, would be a find.

I totally understand the issue of location. Obviously this is just a forum and if one were to be selling a turnkey kit car for 15,000 Australian Dollars, the amount to getting it to anyone of ours home soil would be an additional cost. So that is why I just said a generic amount of 12,000 U.S. Dollars. So in retrospect lets leave location out of it and lets focus on the vehicle's own cost and performance. I would be personally amazed to see if some bloke in a shed in Madagascar can build and sell a car for less than the above stated cost and it having an incredible performance figure and look to top it off.

Silly really as you can at least state your COUNTRY
After all it doesn't take long for any 'net savvy person to find it out !!

The big issue with kits is NOT the price etc etc it's to do with the legality of the car to meet country standards. So many non-UK kits need extra work to get them through the SVA here in the UK and likewise some countries require an engineers report on the chassis strength and safety !!

Suka gave a couple oof examples. Second hand a GTM Rossa or QUantum Coupe could be got for less than £2K for PRISTINE examples .... but you're looking at 15 year old designs. Fun, but not the ultimate

Here at least, the majority of kit cars are either Lotus 7 derivatives, Cobras and GT40's. The latter 2 are generally sold in turnkey form somewhere around $100K, especially a fully specced Roaring Forties GT40 which could be $150K+.

Lotus 7 replica's often sell for over $20K in rolling chassis form on the used market.

I am just uploading a few images so people understand the kits we are referring to.

The GTM Rossa is the first image. (Looks like a Porsche 914)

Second is the GTM Libra. (Road/Track Car)

Third is the Quantum Coupe. (Fiesta XR2 Rebody)

Fourth is the Veranti Coupe. (MR2 Mk1 rebody)

I have to say that from looks alone the Libra and Veranti stand out the most.

    ...............Rossa.....................Libra.... ................Quantum.......................Vera nti

The Almac Sabra S2 looks like a fantastic car to add to the list. Here is what the vehicle looks like. The S2 debuted in 2004 and it seems is still available. Albeit the website does look a bit dated, but legitimacy lies in the picture of the car in-flight as plenty of people use it for a racing platform.

I think I should also mention that the list now comprises of

    The GTM Libra
    The Veranti Coupe
The Almac Sabra S2 (The Priciest of the bunch...but can be lowered within their site)

There must be more than 3 cars that we can come across...
