    How come it's a 6 cylinder 12 piston engine...?

Either it's a 6 cylinder or a 12 cylinder. How can it be both?

Because each cylinder has 2 opposed pistons in it with the combustion occurring in between them and pushing them apart. So 6 cylinders would hold 12 pistons in this design of engine.

Oh, I didn't know that opposed pistons go back that far.

    Thanks.

Now with the advent of direct injection technologies, this engine is poised to make a biger splash than it ever did in the past. As I stated earlier the new diesel opposed aviation engines are the envy of most pilots. I cannot wait to get my hands on one. I am even working on a version of my own, which incorporates a new design of crankshaft.
