Dalhousie Springs is around 120 kms north of the town of Oodnadatta which is in the middle of Australia. It is like a hot spa (sometimes too hot) in the middle of nowhere.
Big Red is one of the last sand dunes before Birdsville when you cross form Dalhousie (which is at the other end of the Simpson Desert. Good fun in a 4wd.
The Coorong is actually only about three hours drive from Adelaide and you can drive on the beach from Goolwa (check PDF) all the way to within around 45 k's of Kinston with a 4wd and a bit of luck. Do a bit of fishing too.
