http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/St...ctions0604.pdf explains how to rest the HDMI configuration ( oddly it seems to leanr and then remember it so if connections chage you coudl get stuffed ! - stupid bloody idea )
Also it warns about not having anything connected to ControlIn .... make sure it's not

and Philips FAQ - 42PFL5603D/10 tells you how to turn of "EasyLink"

    PS: Nice kit

Thanks for your help Pete, problem's been solved (at least as far as I can tell) by switching to a different HDMI cable. My model television didn't have the option to turn on/off the easylink while the DVD player's HDMI reset function did nothing. Sometimes the silly things are the ones that cause the most trouble. Who would have thought a Hewlett Packard branded HDMI would have been of less value to me than a generic 3 dollar HDMI...

"old" HDMI is the real problem. THe control agreements came late to the specs
SOME manufacturers seem to be even more flakey and you have to use their cables with extra grounding !!

    Glad it's sorted

I lied. It worked initially, but today when I went to turn it on and play some Forza I had the same problem. I may be out of luck I think

edit: maybe the reason it worked was what I've experienced in the past, not sure if it means much but: If I leave the tv and dvd player on but dont touch any controls on either for about 10 minutes, I regain full functionality of the dvd remote; maybe because they both go into standby mode,, not sure
