But isn't that how it it goes? I'm pretty positive of it. Sorry if it wasn't accurate.

I thought Nissan bought Prince, which came with it the GT-R, and Nissan was originally called Datsun. Or so I think it is, at least.

More or less correct. Prince and Nissan merged in the 60's, and Prince were responsible for the Skyline and Gloria families. Originally Nissan was used for bigger cars and the rest were Datsuns, until the name Datsun started to disappear and ended up being phased out definitely in the 70's.

Some months ago I made several Prince/Nissan/Datsun threads in the hideout in which you can more or less follow their history.

the whole thing game from the Dat company, which became Datsun, and that was purchased by Nissan manufacturing, and shortly after acquired Prince, and i think another company as well, but can't remember.

the datsun name was phased out in japan pretty early on, since thhe already had the identity of Nissan independent of the cars, but the name continued in the US into the 80s, and at its last incarnations, they were called Datsun by Nissan. Datsun was also offered as a trim level on their pickup in the early 90s for 2 years or so.

Glad I got it generally correct.

In the 70's (and perhaps earlier) Colt was a separate brand for Mitsubishi, at least in some markets. Or at least the cars weren't marketed under the Mitsubishi name.

Maybe something similar happened in this case.

some quick wiki.... the laurel was a model slated between the 510 and the skyline. originally produced by prince, it became a nissan model after the merger. it has shared parts and platforms through the years with skylines and silvias.

Manufacturers sometimes do that, like on the Genesis which AFAIK carries no Hyundai badging at all and the VX220 which didn't have Vauxhall anywhere written on it, altough it did have Vauxhall badges.
