    Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR production years

According to UCP and other sources, the Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Coupe was produced in 1997-1998. Now one of these fine automobiles is to be sold at RM Auctions this October.

It is limited edition number 13 of 20 and it was completed in January... 2005. They will also offer an even rarer '2006' Roadster version at the same event.

Apparently they either built one or two per year, or maybe some extra cars were built on request of (very) wealthy customers. I mean, if this is number 13 then it could even exist that this car is still produced in a very limited production run at this very moment. Can someone clarify this?

It was the initial plan... In 2002 production was moved from AMG to sister company, HWA, where ~10 cars were made (5 original Roadsters, coupes with 631 PS 6,9l V12 engine and coupe with 664 PS 7,3l V12 engine; reportedly also coupe 1/25 was turn into 7,3l version, but with ~730 PS).

Roadster No2 is also going on sale via RM Auctions. Both cars are RHD, were never registered for road use, managed to cover less than 40 km, and were reportedly build for Sultan Of Brunei.

Do you know how many were built?
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

    This catalog description is interesting:

    Lot Details

It dates from 2003 and already mentions the five Roadsters that were built

    1.500.000 $ the coupe, in 1997

EDIT: I clearly remember from a review of that time, that one of the cars used for the tests were crashed, lightly, at Hockenheim, reporting a 25.000 € damage for the sole front bonnet.

That was the limit the FIA put on the cars and it certainly did not cover the costs.

It's weird how mysterious these cars are. I remember driving one of these around back in Need for Speed III, and that was 10 years ago. To think that they could still being built today in some factory somewhere is very strange.

Did Mercedes ever say they were ending production? If they didn't, we could assume that they're still making them.

Mercedes never built a single example.
