Exclamation Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR Recaptures Lap Record at Laguna Seca

Street-legal, Production Supercar Sets New Mark

The Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team from Chrysler Group LLC arrived at Laguna Seca raceway 11/24/09 on a mission – to recapture the production car lap record at the world-renowned road course in Monterey, Calif.

    Mission accomplished...
It all happened at the Laguna Seca race circuit in Salinas, CA. The 2010 Viper SRT10 ACR broke a lap record at the track, plus Dodge President and CEO Ralph Gilles revealed much about the future of the iconic sports car. Hint: no way the snake is slithering away. Don't miss the downloadable broadcast quality videos and photos attached to the release.

First thing that comes to mind, is Laguna Seca a really demanding track?

I have never raced there nor driven or seen it live, but I have seen some races of different sorts on Motors TV, and it does look a bit demanding. Especially down the corkscrew. If you turn your question around though, is a demanding track that big of an obstacle if a professional driver with loads of experience with the given track is behind the wheel?

    Another fair point.
It seems a track more demanding to the driver rather than to the car though. it surely is so with bikes (looking at MotoGP races there).

Last year I witnessed a race of the US Ferrari Challenge programme, using F430 Challenge cars. For quite a few people the track was obviously far too complicated, and not only the corkscrew.

I did the skip barber school there. It's not the nurburgring or anything, but it has it's hard parts. Turn 2, the hairpin, the corkscrew, and the last corner before coming onto the straight are the hardest to really get right IMO.

I like racing the track in Forza, I'd love to have a crack at it in reality.. I'm sure I'd never meet my virtual times, but it'd be great to have a go at it.

A guy at Lime Rock a few weeks back totaled brand new one on the first lap, it was a sad sight.

    Classic:

Interviewer: What did you do to the car to make it possible to break the record today
Intervieww: erm, we took it off the assembly line, put it in a transporter and brought it to Laguna.

    BEST resply of the year

One item to take them to task on ... Laguna is NOT a "mini-Nurburgring
In the sense of it goes up and down and has blind brows, yeah fine. But no comparison of the fettled tarmac of Laguna and the rippling, lumpy, nasty surface of the North Loop

what car had the previous record? I saw on motortrend that the ACR had the best time follow by the zr1, followed by a GT3. but i think that was only a list of cars motortrend has driven there.
