Between 1967 and 1979 Volkswagen built 2,533,188 T2 in the facility in Hanover/Germany.
After that the machines to built the car were shipped to Brasil, where the T2 was resumed.
As of October 2012, it was announced that the production of the Brazilian Volkswagen Kombi will end in 2013. Due to the introduction of more stringent safety regulations in Brazil.

Yeah, I read it. A bit sad, it'd have been the retro car to end all retro cars...
