Basically if you're using the car at College/University you need to be less concerned with speed and more concerned with the cars ability to keg carry.

So maybe a Mazda3 or similar?

that seems steep. i've been looking at one in mint condition here for the same price almost; $30k..AUD.

We are obviously worlds apart. If you want to have the cool, inexpensive version, try to find a VW Beetle, or even a Karmann-Ghia version.
There is no such a thing as a cheap Porsche 911. If you buy one cheap you'll notice that parts are pretty expensive, and if you can buy one that is not in immediate need of parts you'll pay in another way.

635s go for 3.000 to 6.000€ here. I think that could quite fit the bill when it comes to inexpensive.

    looks about right IB4R.

I think I've had this discussion with MP before regarding size of asses. And we worked out we're the same height and im heavier.

So man up MP, If i can happily sit in clutch's 930 with a rollcage and race seats your just being a bitch.

No, it's mostly a footwell issue. I'm 6'4", 205 pounds (93kilo) so I'm not even near too fat too fit, but I wear a size 15 US shoe, ever seen the pedal placement in one of those cars?

I was actually looking at Karmann-Ghias yesterday, that would be kind of fun, very quirky for sure.

    HA! Clever.

A little different, this thread is a little more realistic than back then.

your US size 15 is AU 14, so realistically only 2 CM longer than my footprint.. I think if you wanted it bad enough you'd make it work.

    1. The new Scirocco is pretty good looking, but it's not available in the US unfortunately.

    2. Reading through a thread on another forum with cars like this in it really makes me want to just wait a while and get a new(er) car.

    3. I have no idea how much these are, but that would be kind of fun.

I wouldn't pick any older car and assume it will be reliable. It might be if you know the full service history and that all the preventative work has been done. I certainly wouldn't trust any older BMW. A friend of mine has a well maintained E39. Nice car but not trouble free.

Cost is a big question. Cool and $10k is different than cool and $20k. I wouldn't worry about the turning the heads of others. If the car is comfortable and respectable that generally is good enough. Beyond that who are you trying to impress and why?

In general VWs are nice and some are pretty quick. A BMW would be nice but they are expensive new or used. I rather like the late model SAABs and I bet they are going for cheap these days. Not the most reliable brand but probably better than any 15 year old BMW. BTW, what do you take to be reliable? My father's '98 Passat never left him on the side of the road. It did require a fair bit of service but it never left him stranded. My friend's E39 BMW left him stranded a few times.
Things like the Accord and Altima are quick in V6 form. I don't care for the looks of either and the handling doesn't do it for me either. However, if you like the looks, they aren't bad cars.
A Jeep isn't fast but they do have their own kind of cool.
A late model Mustang GT would be nice. Not sure I would want the insurance bill on that. A Focus SVT isn't that fast but they are great cars.
