    I'm really surprised there wasn't a thread for this already.

    Who's seen it, and what were you thoughts?

    My synopsis:

    Animation: the best there's ever been.
    Storyline: close to the worst there's ever been.

    I saw it in 3D and it was just incredible. Well worth the ticket price, or a drive if there's not a 3D theater near you.

    Really entertaining/enjoyable despite some obvious flaws.

    watched it in 3d, spend too much time checking out the animation to have the plot affect me. watched in 2d, oh god some cheesey bits in there.
    awesome action though!
    spoilers;
    anyone else feel vaguely uncomfortable during the sex scene? it's like.. huh but he's still.. a human technically, oh man. it's like sticking your dick in a sentient cat, only it's okay because you posessed another ****ing cat to do it.

    haha i have no idea, it was a bit.. for the furry's out there lol.
    also;
    also, since the human DNA affected the number of fingers and toes the avatars had vs the natives, if you noticed the avatars had four fingers the natives only had three. what if like.. the genitalia were affected by human dna.. and didn't match up properly. i mean seriously

    also, the mechs reminded me of gears of war haha, the massive shoulders, the shape of the bayonet. uncanny.

    Ok those helicopters called "Scorpions"...are those a real thing? The exact same helicopters were in Halo 3, also called Scorpions...

    Something that many people didn't notice but that really bothered me were the re-used Jurassic Park sound fx. That was just lazy.

    ^yeah that roar the big cat thing does! ripped straight from t-rex scene.
    lol MP in halo the tanks were called scorpions, the dropships were called pelicans.
    the helicopters in avatar looked to be much more conventional design, just the rotors being replaced with those turbofan thingies (name for them anyone?).
    reminded me of a modified huey actually!
    also.. anyone else catch that the doorguns were M60's prettied up a little haha.

    I enjoyed it.

    There were a few awkward spots but nothing as bad as a post-Return of the Jedi Star Wars film.

    Ah damn.

    Anyone else notice that in this movie that cost $300,000,000 to produce, they used the Papyrus font from Microsoft Word for the subtitles? You couldn't spring an extra $12 for the font expansion package?

    Yeah, the Helicopters were called Hornets...

    I totally loved the film. I had zero idea what it was about before I went to see it, went purely on the hype. It made me curious, wasn't disappointed.

    the thing this movie will be remembered for is its huge role in advancing 3D utilisation in cinema. its one of the first movies that uses 3D as part of the working machine of the movie, rather than as a gimmick to be in-your-face all the time. you almost forget its 3D after 20 minutes or so and walk out with your glasses on. It was quite clear how much time and effort had been put in to the animation of this film. the movie uses entirely new technology not just for 3D but for the effects on screen. Its taken so long to come to screens because until now it just wasnt possible to make an entirely animated character have human qualities. We've been used to transformers, lord of the rings, pixar etc but with avatar they cracked the shell in making the audience have human feelings and responses to non-human characters on screen. There's alot about the movie that could have been improved, like changes in location and character focus. But cameron has never been the greatest innovator in storytelling. Instead he's a great visionary. And i think every movie lover should watch this movie. But be warned. Afterwards there is a slight feeling of depression at how instensely boring and uncolourful our own world is

    Yeah, I haven't watched it yet, but it's not likely I'd watch it anyway.
