My only problem with small hatchbacks is I don't exactly fit in them lol

the E30 drives wonderfully, but as mentioned the maintenance costs will kill you. buying one and affording one are a bit different. if their big maintenance items have been done, they can be reasonable, but once something goes, it can add up quick. E36s are no different. but the trade off is cars that handle beautifully and are very well built, and will run forever if you do the maintenance. GTIs are the same, but fwd. if you don't have a problem with that, then you will love it. outstanding drive, although the mk IV isn't as good as the V, but handles nicely, good for auto x, and lots of modding ability.
as far as the rx, the protocol is as follows: let it warm up before driving, let it cool down before shutting it down, and rev it like hell frequently. routinely check the oil and coolant, and top up as necessary. and for engine work, take it to a rotary specialist. don't be shy with it and it will love you forever.

The rx7 is temping, the rotary is a love/hate sort of thing for me. I really appreciate how you can get so much power out of such a little engine. My dad would like to see me get the BMW, I would love to get it too. Being a BMW it will cost me when something goes. A gti is defiantly an option, this is a fwd I wouldn't mind owning I've driven a vr6 mk3 it was really nice especially being nearly a twenty year old car. I would say with practicality, speed, and price the mk4 gti seems like a good bet. I wish I could afford an r32, that would be nice XD... looking into it it seems like this generation of gti has problems with MAF sensor and ignition coils. Is this a common problem or is it just an exaggeration made by car reviewers?

I'd avoid Mk III and Mk IV Golfs. By all acounts they are boring and dull.
A Mk II GTI, especially the 16v, is pure hot hatch goodness. You can have a lot of fun in it. The Mk V apprently is a lot of fun too, and a much better all rounder. And the Mini is fine for space in the front, especially if you don't have fit anyone in the back.

I found one MkII GTI in all of Ontario, and it was molested.
I searched eBay Motors for any Golf from 1980-1991 and it returned 0.
On the other hand, just one website and located in Barcelona:
VOLKSWAGEN Golf en Barcelona de segunda mano. Coches VOLKSW...
EDIT Damn it doesn't seem to work. But on that website you can find Mk II GTIs easily, from under a grand to 3.000€.

Oh heres, what I think is a nicer car than the gti!
VW Corrado G60 - All Stage IV Upgrades - Supercharged
Its a Corrado! Not the vr6, but still! Anyone have their thoughts on this?

Looks good and unmolested. If you like it it could be a good choice. The G60 also came in Golf guise, at least for us. If you need the practicality it might be better.

Ok, I think I've decided on the Volkswagen Corrado G60! It seems like a good car it has got a decent boot and a powerful engine, does anyone have anything to say about it? I've read that they are cheap to fix too!

autocross the shit out of it.

Thats exactly what I'm going to do! If I can't get this one then I'll find another. The g60 had better handling than the vr6 since it was lighter and with a bit of tweaking I can make it faster than the vr6 =]
