Great Brendon! Sounds like what old days drivers would do jump from one car to the other, expect for the black flags and the cone of shame I suppose .

How much did you drive during the two days?

Any of you got tortured by the judges???

yeah, it was pretty cool, and we had a couple drivers get burned out, so i ended up getting even more that i was originally supposed to. all in all about 4 hours of track time between the two cars. one hour was about the maximum i wanted to do for a stint. after that i was getting tired and sloppy. missing apexes and the like, and by the end my neck was killing me (still is today).

we had a little bit of a talking to after the 3rd black flag, which i earned btw. we did get the bart simpson penalty on sunday though. after the guy who got thrown out of the car came in for the second time he had to write all over the car. picture of the results later. other than that the judges were pretty cool with us. the team captain has been racing since the 2nd ever race, and is friends with the judges, so we got treated well.

and to allay Pieter's concerns, no one got the people curse. the greatest number of votes for one car was 5, and that was the car leading after day one with no otherwise good reason. so the only cars that were destroyed did it to themselves (well, there was the one that flipped on track after being hit by another car... but you know what i mean).

Did you meet the great Murilee Martin him/herself?
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

i did. and judge johnny. both were pretty cool.

ok, some pictures to feed you greedy picture lovers. starting with the cars i drove. first is the civic. the hummer hood had 16 inches cut out of the center and plexi installed where the hood vent was. that ended up coming in handy as the hood had a tendency to come up at speed after the hood pin broke. but that was fixed with a ratcheting tie down strap and some duct tape. the cigar on top was made with chimney tubing and weighed about 60 lbs. probably would have been faster without it there, but what's the fun in that.

next is the crx as viewed in its natural state, on jack stands. this was after the transmission let go and we were trying to figure out what went wrong. in the end i drove this as much as the civic.

and murilee leaning on what became our parts car. it was supposed to be a judges hooptie, but we needed it instead.

starting off the mass pic posting with the civic. including me in the car.

you can see in the cockpit shots how damn near everything is held together with zip ties and duct tape. this is de riguer for LeMons, and certainly an efficient manner of fastening damn near anything, cheaply. i used lots of both.

certainly a far cry from a real race car.

now the crx. racing and in its natural state. and another shot of me following the race. i took the checker in this car, despite the fact i really didn't like it that much. that itself was a hell of an experience. after the checkers waved, driving relatively slow around the track with all of the flag men and women waving and clapping for you. then we all ended up in a big line coming off the track with judges johnny and murilee there shaking your hand and talking shit to every driver. then coming in through the paddock everyone applauds you as you drive past, as just making it to the end is something to be applauded: remember these are $500 (or less) cars that just did 17 hours of hard racing. kinda staggering to think about.

That sounds like you had an awesome time. I'd love to go to a LeMons event sometime, even if only as a spectator. There's something about the whole idea that very much appeals to me.

What sort of engine is that in the 4th one? Unless I'm mistaken, the E30 didn't have a V8...

1: Two wheels in the dirt is not cool.
2: While my team is enjoying lunch, I'm doing this shit.
3: It's too early in the morning for this shit. (my favorite)
