AutoCAR says it has got american 4,2-liter V8

    Zagato unveils TZ3 Stradale - Autocar.co.uk

Despite its Alfa looks, the special edition Stradale is based on a Dodge Viper ACR, with power sourced from the American’s 4.2-litre V8 engine, which is mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox.

So why is Alfa using an American engine and chassis when they can so easily get one from Ferrari?

    Seems weird.

Well, these days they could get a Viper just as easily...

That's not the point! I can easily cut off the mufflers on a Civic or put on a fartcan, it doesn't make it better. It feels unholy to me for some odd reason.

So which one (from the last 2 photos) in Ecnelis' post is the Viper? I'm thinking the car to the right on the last photo.

So what's the other car based on?

Perhaps some obscure website could provide you with an answer...

It's the last year's one-off TZ3 Corsa bades on 8C Competizione, and it's the car to the right (to the left if Viper-based TZ3 Stradale).

Wrong, last year's car was based on the Gillet Vertigo, NOT communicated by Zagato. There was not a single Alfa component in the whole car.

I'd add that it was using a Maserati V8 just becase the Vertigo uses one.
Incidentally, if it was an older model it would have had an Alfa engine.

I even took a picture of the VIN to get an evidence of the Belgian-ness of this car.

Too old for that one... it was one of the last Busso V6, turbocharged in its last applications, iirc.

It seems weird they'd use a Viper chassis but then not the Viper engine (Viper's have a V10, you may recall, not a V8)

Either way though, that is one good looking car.

In that case the Viper is very much a slut, it's been around other car makers too.

The panel gaps are odd- I think it's because they're adopting a body to a current car. If you get past the panel gap issue, it is very good looking indeed.

Reading Zagato's own press release there is no mention to a V8 engine, and given how they stress the word "mechanical" chassis when referring to the Viper's, I get it's using the same V10, gearbox, suspensions and so on.

Definitely offtopic, but I wonder if now that they are both under the same property (again) the Spyker C12 Zagato will eventually see the light of the day.
