GM's China Sales Overtake US Sales

    Link: GM's Chinese sales top U.S. total - Jul. 2, 2010

In sort of big news category, GM's car sales in China over the first half of the year were 130,000 more cars. As China is now the largest automotive market in the world, that isn't surprising but GM is the best-selling brand in China as it is in the U.S. So I guess it's safe to say GM is bouncing back and perhaps the Chinese have poor taste in cars much like Americans.

I wonder if GM is going to stay the best selling brand for very long. The way China has things set up, they're forcing outside companies to pair with chinese companies, which gives the Chinese companies access to all the technology of anyone who wants to sell something in China. This really is pulling them up to speed fast, and I wonder if this will mean that a Chinese company will be able to start competing, at least in their home market, soon.

Also, many previous generations of American and European cars are bought by Chinese companies, so that is helping both Chinese and foreign companies.
