World premiere: the BMW Concept 6 Series Coupé.

The 2010 Paris Motor Show is the setting for the world premiere of the BMW Concept 6 Series Coupé. This design study for a premium-class 2+2-seater is the embodiment of a passion for aesthetics and dynamics. Flowing lines and aesthetically sculpted surfaces define the design of the BMW Concept 6 Series Coupé, in which classic BMW coupé styling cues are given a modern rendition. Among the innovative details featured in this concept study are full LED headlights and a newly designed, freestanding Control Display for the iDrive operating system.

Even if it's just a study, it's already lightyears ahead of the old one. Front and rear are much improved, and it looks way less massive (which gives me a good feeling about the weight).

    looks great to me!!

I'm not crazy about the interior though.

What is that pop up thing on the dash above the sat-nav screen?

    How so?

I think it looks absolutely brilliant. Got the proportions and general shape just spot on. infinitely better than the old 6. hope the production version looks more or less the same.

I can't find a single angle from which this car doesn't look absolutely grotesque. There's no continuity in the lines or the styling from nose to tail. And for that matter, there's hardly any continuity of styling within any given region of the car. It doesn't look elegant, it doesn't look agressive. It's just blah. And I don't think it's particularly well-proportioned either. Yeah, it's a front-engine coupe--which is a great place to start from--but they didn't do anything particularly interesting with it. For a car that's gonna cost the same as a 'Vette, I think it's very drab. It doesn't look like anything that should cost $60-70k USD; Kia could have designed this car as far as I'm concerned. The only thing that makes this car any special is the Roundel.

Very nice interior. So will BMW now adopt Bang & Olufsen stereos as a premium option on all their other cars?

Not digging the front end though.

It's at once overly conservative and contrived.

Another confusing set up by BMW.

BMW can't win it seems! Bangle-esque designs are too radical (or ugly, but radically ugly at least) and this is too conservative. I wouldn't call it conservative myself, but its definitely more subtle than what we're used too. But I think thats a good thing...

It's not subtle though - the shapes used are complex, the concave/convex surfacing is still there, the sahara themed dashboard...the details are incredibly complex. All thats been done is a loss in proportion and scale. The craziness, instead of permeating every layer, now lies in the details - the wheels, grilles, shutlines and light enclosures.

a BMW should stand for elegant simplicity - a Hugo Boss suit. What it has at the moment is a Single Breasted number with crazy stitching and inside out pockets, made out of charcoal fabric.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. While I agree it is a tad busy in the details, one has to remember it is a concept at the end of the day and they'll probably be toned down a touch for production. I see your point though.
