You might find a complete rusty SS396 Chevelle for 8-10k that doesn't run and spent the last 20 years in a barn getting crapped on by pigeons. Can it be restored for another 5-10? No, the paint and bodywork alone will run that if you farm it out. Now you are in to it for nearly $20,000 and all you have is a painted shell. You can find one at an auction already restored for not much more than that.

This arguement makes some people angry. Trust me, I understand.

we only do restorations if the car is going to be in a lot of shows. and they are not cheap. you are right it just takes to much time and a lot of effort to restore.

I was at one of these auctions last year. Some of the #2+ from 2005/2006 were right in that range. Go to enough of them, with a little luck, one could find the right car for the right price.

It was pretty vague, kind of like asking: How much is a steak dinner?

$9.95, except on thursdays it's the 2 for 1 deal as long as you buy drinks.

Hey, that's not a bad deal as long as the girlfriend or wife doesn't have your wallet.

This way you can take the money you saved on dinner and spend it on the other woman ... err, car.
