World Time Attack Challenge - Eastern Creek, Sydney 2011

    Hello Guys,

This past weekend was the Superlap World Time Attack Challenge 2011.
This is the second year the event has been run at Eastern Creek in this format.
The calibre of cars has only gotten better, and the lap times have plummeted.

The Hankook Rx7 is a truly amazing beast.

Local media company Motive DVD have built this from a street car into a carbon beast over a number of years.

Another local Shane from Gorilla Industries (Design house) entered his street weapon 2J powered Supra into the Open class and while fighting piping issues (Split silicone hoses on boost) managed a number of PB's over the weekend.

    Australian built clubsprint GTR

The American Sierra Sierra Enterprises Evo returned this year and came an incredibly close second. only 200ths of a second behind the winners!

Along with the Time Attack Tectaloy held a Trans Tasman Drift challenge.
"Mad Mike" from NZ brought his mental Rx7 (26B Quad rotor peripheral port) over the ditch and came out fighting.

On Saturday there was a sizable show'n'shine event, which I will go through in more detail later on.

Here is a Cima all alone on Friday morning.

Speedhunters.com came out in force with 4 photographers covering the details.

Truth Be told many photographers were there with very nice hardware.

This is from one of the many trader displays.

The traders included big insurance companies that specialize in insuring modified rides. This immaculate GTR was infront of the JustCar Insurance stand.

UCP member Clutch-Monkey took time in the afternoon between the races and drifts to take a nap.

The Nikon V Cannon debate sparked up regularly around the track.

I was using a new Tamaron 90mm F2.8 Macro lens and Love the texture and depth it captures at the track.

The two day event ran on the Friday and Saturday, So here are some pictures from Saturdays racing!

The Scorch Racing S15 is privateer built and has dipped into the 55sec lap time at Tsukuba in its native japan.

Two Queensland built GTR's were entered into the Pro and Open classes - The quickest was only ~3.5 seconds behind the top lap time at its first event.

This Evo came across from NZ and while looking incredibly unstable mid corner was putting down very quick times.

Another shot of the Gorilla Industries Supra. (I just love this car!)

An R33 GTR driven in the clubsprint class.

Which was being chased quite closely by this clean GC8 WRX

The Enginebay of the Sierra Seirra Evo is quite striking.

I have just picked up a Speedlight and have been enjoying some portraiture with the flexibility it provides.

Especially shooting into the setting sun!

And one final one for now, I will be processing some extra shots of the rest of the field tonight.

    Enjoy.

To put these cars into perspective, the Privateer Scorch racing S15 is putting out 800Hp from a 2.0 litre turbo. The engineering behind these cars is truly outstanding.

These cars all run street legal semi slicks - and are almost 2 seconds faster than the Australian V8 supercar series that run on race slicks.

It's amazing the back end of that RX-7 doesn't literally catch on fire! Aside from Top Fuel cars, that's the most flame i've ever seen a car put out

What kind of numbers is the 4-rotor putting down?
"Kimi, can you improve on your [race] finish?"
"No. My Finnish is fine; I am from Finland. Do you have any water?"

Not too sure on the power of the Madbull Rx7. It could be anywhere from 360Kw up to 500Kw going by the power outputs of its competition.

The term rice does not apply here.

These are race cars - I approve of this scene.

    How was it?

Well for the event Clutch Monkey, His sister and their friend all flew interstate to stay with me, And IB4R drove up from Canberra to partake in the shenanigans too.

I can say for sure Superlap is the event I look forward to most, its a great atmosphere, Lots going on all the time, and incredibly good weather too.

The number of competing cars is huge, lots of track time.. Its a great event, with great people.

We've got a little tradition of going out to a great Thai joint across Sydney each year, which is always good to unwind.
