    TL Swap

Last Friday, our family's 2001 Acura TL's transmission bought it. So today, my Dad bought a 2012 TL to replace it. I had just started doing research into what he should buy next, but he bought it - too fast I think. More info to come when we get it.

Anyways, I took photos of the TL and Golf a few months ago but I could not upload the pics from my computer to UCP or Gmail from my computer for some reason, so I am gonna try it from the family PC. Here are some really boring and ugly documentary shots of the soon to be gone TL.

I showed some shots to hellcat on MSN when I took them and MSN's shitty file sharing system worked. I do not know what is wrong with my computer.

    Ah, they have uploaded.

So you guys really like the Acura then I guess? New TLs are nice I think equipment level wise, just a bit funny looking....

    Looks like a nice neighborhood...

    The beak! The beak...

That decision does seem a bit rash on your dad's part.

This generation TL is my favorite.

    The Type S looked amazing.

So is this any good? I thought about recommending one of these to my friend before he pretty much decided to get a new Fit.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.

What's the mileage? Car looks really clean, has to be worth a tranny rebuild...

Yeah, he's sold on Acuras for some reason. He has talked about TLs of subsequent generations from ours positively now for several years. As for the neighbourhood, check your PM.

The beak is lessened on the 2012 as you know, and the darker lights look alright I guess. It's pretty meh if you ask me.

The old man was tempted by a G37 but it was outta his price range. He test drove a G25, Sonata Turbo, V6 Camry, and V6 Altima (I rode along) all before the TL on the same day. I gotta say, the Sonata was pretty nice, but it'd be hard to argue with the G25, though it sounded absolutely terrible and was slower. Toyotas have hideous centre consoles, just as Lexus do. My friends and I were stunned at the shittiness of the aesthetics of the Toyota/Lexus interiors at the car show, and my Dad was when he rode in the Camry. The Altima was fairly slow compared to the rest, but I was only the passenger in these rides and cannot verify with certainty.

I am really surprised he was so hasty to buy. When we got the 2001 TL, it was a 3 month process, and even the Golf tooks a few weeks as I recall. I had no idea he would buy a car on the first day of looking. I was disappointed.

I like the looks of the 3rd generation most.

The 2nd gen TL? Really boring. Pretty effortless steering, an ugly and dated interior, but decent pickup and an ok engine roar at high rpms.

It has 220-230k on it right now... kms of course. We got quoted for a something like 6 grand to rebuild it at the dealer, and I think 3 elsewhere. The car is worth between 4 and 6 grand. So, eh. We got something like 1k or 1,500 for the trade in. This had had a transmission recall in 2002 or 2003 so the transmission in it was not that old.

Our family usually takes care of the cars: we keep no garbage in them, clean them often, and don't really drive them hard (barring me).

I'd say tis too much for what basically is an old car. Unfortunately that's what happens with high mileage, well cared old cars, they work fine but when they have a problem it's usually a expensive one.

My father always says that Honda's transmissions are only so-so.

I would love to have a TSX wagon though.

As currently a VW man you probably could've taken a look at CC, if not 3.6 then 2.0T....but I don't think I trust VW enough yet to recommend them....

Kitdy is staunchly anti-VW, as am I.

    He does have a Golf....

Strictly speaking I don't find myself being a VW man. I still have a healthy amount of distrust to how the car will do me in the long run. But when I went with my choice it was "hey this made some sense, the price is right".....
