    2013 Goodwood Revival (Sep 13-15)

The 2013 Goodwood Revival will feature unique one-model GT40 race!

The 2013 Revival’s Whitsun Trophy race will mark 50 years since the genesis of the Ford GT40 programme. Although the first GT40 wasn’t completed until early 1964, the Ford project actually began a year earlier in 1963, when Henry Ford II - snubbed by Enzo Ferrari over the sale of his company to the Michigan-based automotive giant - set out to beat ‘il Commendatore’ at his own game, with sights set firmly on victory in the Le Mans 24Hours race.

The GT40 was a development of the Lola Mk6 GT that first raced in 1963, engineered by Eric Broadley’s specialist team in England. The resulting GT40 was created to meet with new manufacturer prototype regulations at Le Mans, and the Ford went on to become an endurance racing icon, winning the 24 Hours race at la Sarthe four years in a row, from 1966 to 1969.

The Whitsun Trophy race promises to make for an intriguing spectacle and a fitting tribute to one of the world’s most revered sports car with a long association with Goodwood, both at the Motor Circuit in period, plus the Goodwood Revival, with examples racing here since the first event in 1998.

Tickets, grandstand seats, camping and other products for the 2013 Goodwood Revival can be purchased via the Goodwood website (http://www.goodwood.com/motorsport/), or the Ticket Hotline as follows: Telephone: +44 (0)1243 755055
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

    More mid-engined magic from Goodwood:

Like the Ford, the revered Ferrari 250 LM celebrates its half century this year, having premiered at the Paris salon late in 1963. Also like the Ford, the 250 LM went on to win the Le Mans 24 Hours race, with the North American Racing Team-entered car – driven by Jochen Rindt and Masten Gregory – taking the chequered flag in the 1965 event. This remains the last time Ferrari took overall victory in the French endurance classic.

The 250 LM raced in the Tourist Trophy at Goodwood in 1964, where it finished fourth, and last competed in this race in the modern era at the Revival in 2000. An example of the Ferrari has also run in the Whitsun Trophy race at the Revival in various years.

For the 2013 Revival, a number of 250 LMs will be returning to the prestigious Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration race for the first time in 13 years, campaigning against fierce competition from Ferrari 250 GTOs, AC Cobras, lightweight Jaguar E-types, Maserati 151s, Aston Martin DB4s, and many other rare and mouth watering machines to create the most valuable historic motor race in the world.
