Drove around in this sucker today

Friend of my dad needed his car picked up from an auto body shop while he was out of town.... The second I heard about it I told my dad I HAD to drive it, I guess I got lucky.

Pretty sweet ride, whole different level than the 350Z obviously. The quality and overall drive is just so enjoyable. Great noise and great engine response

First time driving around in a Porsche.

    Very nice!
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

Very nice! I point blank refuse to drive one of the newer ones, though, as it seems like everybody falls in love with them. I keep thinking there must be Kool-Aid involved.

The new model has a 7-speed manual, that would have been pretty interesting:-).

What's wrong with the new ones? Is the engine too far forward for your liking?

I really like the 997 generation of the 911. I like the coupe versions more, but I wouldn't pass off a chance to drive a convertible.

Looks like you had a blast!

Nice ride! It's always the friends that get us into nice cars. How I drove an XK150 years and years ago.

I don't understand how a 7-speed manual works...where does the shifter rest, for instance, when you put it in neutral? How does the pattern work when putting it in 5th vs. 7th? Is 7th simply more notchy to prevent your shifting into it by accident?

I think that the gearbox has a system that locks out 7th if you are not in 5th or 6th gear.

In any case this was a 997, with a six speed manual, not the newer 991 with the seven speed manual.
