    Summer is a-comin'

It's pushing 90*f and over 30*C here today.

And my lawn is kicking my ass. I get to mow once a week but really need to do it about every 4 days or so. Plus the grass has been neglected for years and has weeds everywhere. I'm in that transition period where a gentle weed n feed has started to kill (turn brown) some of the broadleafs haunting me, but the good grass hasn't started to take hold yet. My backyard has bare spots under some sweet gum maples, and I have seeded some rye/fescue grass for quick coverage. I am a relative amateur at all this though...

My wife does the garden, probably the golden tip.

No front yards or backyards in the mountains.

Great. Yard maintenance is my duty as a man, if I can't get this down, my wife won't...you know...LOL.

Seriously, though, I'd like some good tips, particularly if it involves some cheap/easy organic stuff cause my impression is that traditional fertilizers end up sapping the soil in the long run...

Pour concrete over your lawn. No mess no fuss and if you have a large "lawn" you can even do some auto cross on it.

    Parking is no fuss too.

Hm, well, my lawn is in front of a duplex, one of two, which my mother in law owns and I am managing while she is in her native country. Concrete ain't much of an option....

However, I might get my Dad's lawn tractor over to do some donuts...

My parents just did that to the backyard....they put interlock tiles and replaced the lawn. The lawn was getting really bad last year with dead spots all over and nothing they've done seemed to matter, so they just said screw it and now they don't have the care for lawn anymore. The rest of the plants and flower pots seems fine, as was the Cherry tree...

I'm wanting to bring it back, rather than pave it over.

In Rochester, your battle will be meaningless. The grass will all be dead in the winter then it will scorch in the summer and you will just want to bash your head in.

We've had for the last week or so 20-25șC, here in sunny Mediterraneanland. I thought this was far too hot for this time of the year. I abandoned my coat last week and I don't think I'll dust it off until October...

As for garden, after many years of struggle, we've decided to go for artificial. Samples look impressive.

summer is wrapping up. it's been monsoonal since january so you can imagine what the hot sunny days combined with the rain is doing to the garden.. need to sharpen some tools and hack it all back again

I just remembered, I am having folks over on Friday...it's supposed to rain tomorrow, so I'll have to do mowing day-of...aaaaand I need to see if the trimmer runs. It was free but sat outside in the elements for about a year...

I was stuck for the last 6 months. Had a little square of grass in my yard, not enough to buy a mower, but enough that it needed attention. It grew and grew and grew until my father mowed it for me and bought me a whipper snipper for Christmas.

Not to mention the dead patch where the Z31 sits...anyone in the market for a Z31?

Ahem...don't come to me for yard tips.
