Is this series strictly for universities or is it just a popular and easy race series to get into for their engineering departments?

Its an engineering design competition not unlike Solar Car or Robotic Competition....etc Except the subject matter here is a small, openwheel, single seater race car made for autoX.

There were some cars from this series (or a similar one) in the Barcelona Motorshow which I visited recently (and which was awful, but anyway...). They weren't as professional as those though, no spoilers and wings, and when a teenager stepped inside one of them to have a picture taken the bodywork nearly disintegrated.
Nevertheless, they look interesting.
Lack of charisma can be fatal.
