#2 Under the carbon fibre bonnet lies the same pushrod engine as in Corvette Z06.

A thought just crossed my mind.

This is a Cadillac, isn't it? The epitome of what American luxury is supposed to be. At the same time on the other corner of the room we have the Corvette, the epitome of what American sportscars are supposed to be.

The Corvette has a very modern, but traditional V8 engine. Why not have that (or smaller versions of it) in standard CTSs (and other Cadillacs)?

What is the point of a good handling Cadillac with a four cylinder turbo engine?

Turbocharged four because it is "premium", "sophisticated", "highly efficient", "very European".

Simple V8s are for the rednecks in the South.

Could be, but then again Chrysler also has to comply with them and offers the 300 with a wonderful Hemi V8.

    EDIT I think I'm a bit of a redneck...

For the same reason Ford is going away from V8s in favor of boosted V6s and I4s. I'm not sure if that's because of CAFE or not, but I'm sure it's the same reasoning they are following.

Also, I can see it from the GM marketing perspective. Someone interested in performance would care about the V8 in the V. It is a selling point. Someone not that interested, well, there's no point in having a V8 in a plain CTS as it's just transportation and improved gas mileage and low insurance is preferable.

Can confirm; live in the South and love all five, simple V8s in my garages. Well, four -- one is still OHC, but at least I ripped the variable valve timing out of it. Good riddance.

I don't mind this but it is probably the car we in Australia are going to get instead of the Camaro when GM stops letting us build nice V8s. It doesn't make sens in this market as Cadillac has 0 presence here. I guess its better to have this than some Opel though.

They could just call it something else.

I wish Ford would follow through and make a 4 door Mustang with that platform. Even with the resulting car, they could sell a luxury version as a Lincoln and a regular version as a Ford.

It's stupid that GM and Ford are dragging their feet on this matter.

The thing is they have a car most of the people who want a RWD V8 already want. The Camaro. I understand Ford Australia have pre sold 5000 Mustangs. Giving us the Cadillac and calling it something else seems like the hard way to do things.

If they make a 4-door Mustang, they should revive another old, dead nameplate for it.. I know, they could call it the Falcon! I reckon it could do pretty well down here.

    No way! That's not possible!

What if they did a LWB version? They could call it... I don't know... Fairlane maybe?
