Ever in search of the 'unfair advantage' Roger Penske regularly switched manufacturers and in 1971 his Team Penske raced this Ferrari 512 M. It had briefly raced as a 512 S but was then upgraded ahead of the 1971 season. Before the car was first raced by Team Penske, it was looked over once more and fitted with a lightweight body, full width rear wing and a further tuned engine. The Ferrari was also liveried in Penske's familiar Sunoco colours. Although usually the fastest of all 512s, the Penske Ferrari was dogged by bad luck and ultimately scored no victories. Today the unique Ferrari 512 M is part of a Canadian private collection and regularly raced in historic events. Its most recent outing came at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Renion in August. One of the other stars out on track that weekend was this Porsche 935 K3, boasting the similarly famous Interscope livery. At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, it was driven to victory in both of its races by Cooper MacNeil.
At the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show, the Mercedes-AMG line-up will be further expanded with this E 63 S 4MATIC+. In the range-topping 'S' guise, its four-litre, twin-turbo V8 produces just over 600 bhp. This mighty engine helps the E 63 accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds.
