The second generation, introduced on 11 December 2019 at Mercedes me media event, has a major change from the previous generation:
the chassis name is now assigned with H-prefix, H247, rather than X-prefix as used in several SUV models from Mercedes-Benz. The chassis number, 247, is shared with B-Class (W247) and GLB-Class (X247).
The GLA-Class uses the second generation MFA2 platform as found in A-Class (W177), CLA-Class (C118), B-Class (W247), and GLB-Class (X247).
The MFA2-platform provides the GLA-Class with longer wheelbase, higher height, and bigger interior space than the first generation.
Mercedes EQA, the third full electric SUV from Mercedes-Benz, will be introduced next year.
