One of sports car racing's most iconic livery is that of the late Gianpiero Moretti's MOMO company. The striking red and yellow colours have been applied to many cars during Moretti's racing career and today we highlight two of them. First up and the rarest of the two is the Gebhardt 88 C2 Audi. Created by the small German team, the car started life in 1987 as the JC873 and was then rebadged the 88 C2 when an all new body was fitted in 1989. Chassis 872/1 was then raced in MOMO colours during the 1990 season. It was re-acquired by Fritz Gebhardt in more recent years and we saw it back in action last year at the Monza Historic.
Of a similar vintage is this Nissan NPT-90. Built for the IMSA GTP championship, the NPT-90 combined a startling amount of power with huge downforce levels thanks to the ground effect aerodynamics. Although usually a two-car effort, Nissan constructed over a dozen tubs and some were never used in period. Chassis 90-12 is one of those but using the abundant number of spare parts available it was later built into a complete and running car.
