The Hudson Custom Six is a series of six-cylinder automobiles produced by the Hudson Motor Car Co. in Detroit from 1936 to 1938. It was the successor of last year's Big Six and Hudson's cheapest model.
The Model 63 had a wheelbase of 3,048 mm and otherwise took over the specifications of the previous year's big six model: it was powered by a in-line six-cylinder engine with 3,474 cm3 displacement (bore stroke = 76.2 mm x 127 mm) and an output of 93 bhp (68.4 kW) at 3,800 rpm. Optionally, a version with 100 bhp (74 kW) at 3,800 rpm was also available. The engine power was transferred via a single-disc oil bath clutch to a three-speed transmission (with center gear) and then to the rear wheels. The hydraulic brakes were new this year and applied to all four wheels. A semi-automatic pre-selection gearbox was available as optional equipment.
As with most other Hudson models of this year, there were mainly 2-door body types, but also a 4-door sedan.
In 1937, the wheelbase of the model 73 grew by 2" to 3,099 mm. New this year were the front hinged doors and the narrow radiator grille, which was pulled into the bonnet. The engine now produced 101 bhp (75 kW) at 4,000 rpm with an unchanged displacement.
In 1938, the vehicles were redesigned. The Model 83 now had a radiator grille with chrome-plated middle rib and horizontal rods on both sides. The Model 112 and terraplane replaced the Custom Six as the cheapest model.
The following year, the DeLuxe Six was discontinued in favour of the better equipped Country Club Six.
