It is Easter this weekend and in the United Kingdom that traditionally meant the start of the racing season. To honour that tradition, we have today taken a closer look at two cars that debuted on Easter Monday. First up is the Bentley Pacey-Hassan Special, which first turned a wheel in anger 84 years. It is the second of two single-seat Brooklands racers built by Wally Hassan and features a well honed Bentley 4½-Litre engine mounted in a bespoke frame. Painted in a sinister black, it was instantly successful with Bill Pacey winning at the car's Brooklands debut. Raced for two years in period, the unique Pacey-Hassan Special has had a much longer historic racing career. In recent years, it has appeared at all the Goodwood events in the hands of Bentley specialist William Medcalf.
Another Goodwood regular is this Lola T70 that was ordered new by the Stirling Moss Auto Racing Team for BOAC pilot Hugh Dibley to race. It actually debuted at Goodwood on Easter Monday and was raced to a fourth. Following a comprehensive restoration, SL70/7 has raced at the Goodwood Revival regularly.
