In time for Summer, Porsche have revealed the third body variant of the new 992-generation 911 in the form of the Targa. Available from the launch with all-wheel drive only, the variants available are the 379 bhp Targa 4 and the 444 bhp Targa 4S. Both are equipped with a fully automatic Targa roof that can be opened or closed in just 19 seconds. Needless to say, both the Targa 4 and 4S are faster than their predecessor and can be specified with optional ceramic disc brakes.
Having a foldaway Targa roof is nothing new as is demonstrated by the unique Ferrari 308 GT Rainbow. Designed by Marcello Gandini and built by Bertone, the 1976 Turin show car served as the carrozzeria's pitch for the replacement of the 308 GT4 Dino. It is built on the same underpinnings and features a striking wedge-style body. The roof features a hinge at the back that allows it to slide down behind the seats. In the end, Pininfarina got the job, so the Rainbow remained a fully functional one-off.
