California-based auctioneer Gooding & Co. had planned to run their first ever European auction in London earlier this year. For obvious reasons, this had to be postponed but the Passion of a Lifetime sale has now been rescheduled to September 5th at Hampton Court Palace as part of the annual Concours of Elegance. The one-owner collection that is on offer is right at home at the new location. Today, we take a closer look at three further machines on offer. Sure to grab a lot of attention is this Bugatti Type 57 S Atalante Coupe, which was delivered new to great Bugatti enthusiast Earl Howe. Before being acquired by the vendor, it had been hidden away in a British garage for over five decades. Fortunately, the highly original condition the car was discovered was retained during the sympathetic restoration. Chassis 57502 has since been shown at select events and is estimated to sell for over £7 million.
Another beautifully patinated Bugatti in the collection is this ex-works Type 35C. Originally raced at the Targa Florio by the factory, it then had a successful racing career in privateer hands in France. Having had just three owners in the last six decades, chassis 4871 is a fully functional time-warp example.
An altogether more modern but equally special car consigned is this Miura SV. Built to custom order, it was specified with Jota-inspired upgrades like dry-sump lubrication and a limited-slip differential. Restored to the highest standard, 4878 has been regularly used for transcontinental road trips and even competed in the Tour Auto.
