The year 2020 will definitely not be remembered as the year that Alfa Romeo celebrated their 110th anniversary. That is nevertheless no reason not to mark the occasion by taking a closer look at three great machines produced by the Milanese company during those last 110 years.
The earliest of this trio is this exceptionally well preserved Tipo B. It was originally sold to a Spanish Marquis and then ended up in the United States where it was entered in the Indy 500 no fewer than five times. The final three times, it was fielded by Tommy Lee as the Don Lee Special, and it still wears those colours to this day. It has survived with an immaculate patina but as you can see, it is sill fully functional.
Having certainly benefited from a complete restoration is this 8C 2900B. It is the first of five long chassis fitted with Touring's spectacular Berlinetta bodywork. It spent most of its life in German and British hands, it is now owned by an American collector who managed to win best in show at Pebble in 2018 and Villa d'Este in 2019 with the fabulous 8C 2900B.
During the late 1950s and early 1960s, Zagato was responsible for clothing the competition versions of the Giulia and Giulietta. This SZ Coda Tronca is a great example of this collaboration. Seen in action at the recent Dix Mille Tours, chassis 00197 was campaigned in period at Le Mans and in the Targa Florio.
