the Manta was subject of many jokes during its time. One of the shortest I know is:
A Manta was parked in front of the University....

    Yes, I meant regular models.

In any case, I've always prefered the Capri to the Manta.

However, same issue - lack of power except the (rare) special editions, like pointed out above by Revo.
Classic Saab 900 Turbo then. Plenty of power coupled with prehistoric look.

Very characteristic car indeed. And fast too. That may be one of the candidates when time is near. How is your ride holding up by the way?

It's holding up just fine. After a long winter break, Saab had a minor service and with fresh MOT, it is now used for those lazy Sunday afternoon drives with no particular destination....

I think the Manta jokes were rather associated with the drivers than the car. Mainly because it was cheap enough for nearly everyone which led to the problem that many wannabes bought one. But that was mainly a problem of the 2nd gen Manta I am a big fan of that car, but the 2nd gen has big rust issues which makes them rare. You would not belive how many people want a Manta or a Capri over here
BTW, was the Capri or the Manta more expensive when the started selling them?

Which came first the reputation or the movie "Manta, Manta".
So cheesy it was enjoyable - and of course German "actors" and dialogue
Get it from torrent site if you can !!!

    no, only German.
    Taxed my comprehension
BUT ... it's not the kind of movie where dialogue actually mattered !!!!!
