There have been several major releases this week. The most highly anticipated of the trio featured today is undoubtedly the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Based on the mid-engined, eighth generation Corvette, it is actually more closely related to the C8.R competition car than to the 'regular' Stingray. Accordingly, it is powered by a quad-cam, naturally aspirated, 5.5-litre V8 that produces 670 bhp and a staggering 8,700 rpm. All this power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Production of the Corvette Z06 will commence in the summer of 2022 at the Bowling Green factory.
Today, the all-new, seventh incarnation of the Mercedes-Benz SL was introduced. It will be available as a Mercedes-AMG model only with the range topping version available at the launch being the 576 bhp the SL 63 4MATIC+. Whereas the previous generation model featured a foldable hard-top, the new 'R232' has a classic soft-top, which helps keep the kerb weight under 2,000 kg.
Another classic icon that has been completely redone is the Range Rover. It features new styling and is now powered by a choice of BMW-sourced engines. Hybrid and electric versions are also due to be introduced in the next couple of years. In addition to being a proper road car, the latest Range Rover also promises to perform equally well on looser surfaces.
