With Al Unser, we lost another legend of motorsport this week. A versatile racer and member of Indy racing's most successful family, he was one of just four drivers to win the Indy 500 four times. In 1978, he also became the first and to date only driver to win Indy racing's Triple crown by winning the 500-mile races at Indy, Pocono and Ontario. The car he used that year was this Lola T500 Cosworth. This was the first Lola Indy racing car built in six years and used the Ford Cosworth DFX engine. For the turbocharged V8, this was the first win at Indy. As can be seen in our 24-shot gallery, the featured T500 was reunited with Unser on several occasions for demonstration runs at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The BMW Motorsport department have been busy developing racing versions of the new M4. The latest is this BMW M4 GT4, which started testing at Almeria this week. Closely based on the M4 production car, the GT4-specification machine will be ready for delivery to customers before the start of the 2023 season.
