Like last year, Gooding will stage their annual Scottsdale sale as an online only auction. Bidding starts on January 24th and the lots will start to close on the 28th. Bidders will be able to see the cars in the flesh as the Californian auctioneer does intend to bring all the cars to Scottsdale for private viewings. Among the early consignments are a trio of Maseratis. The most fascinating is no doubt this 5000 GT Touring Coupe, which is the third of three clothed by the Milanese carrozzeria. During the 1960s it was sold to a member of the Saudi royal family and was later owned by prominent European and American collectors. The current owner started restoring 103.010 but the work has not been entirely completed giving the next custodian a chance to add his or her personal touches. Also included in the sale are this lovely Sebring Series I and a Ghibli SS presented in its striking original colour of metallic beige.
Of a completely different order is this S1 Hoonitron that has been purpose built by Audi for Ken Block. It is inspired by the great Group B and Pikes Peak Audi Quattro rally cars of the 1980s but boasts a bespoke carbon-fibre chassis, fitted with a pair of electric motors. We expect the S1 Hoonitron to appear in one of Block's famous Gymkhana movies soon.
