This weekend we will be at the Circuit du Castellet or Paul Ricard for the annual Dix Mille Tours. It promises to be a scorching hot weekend but there will also be a great selection of cars on track. Among our favourites will be this Audi R8. One of the very last ones built, it was driven to third at Le Mans by the works team and was then run by various satellite operations. In the hands of the Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx team, it scored an outright win in the 2004 Sebring 12 Hours. It would also score three more wins in European Le Mans Series races. Now restored to its 2002 livery, the R8 already competed at the Le Mans Classic last month.
That was also the case for this Porsche 935/79. Raced only once in period, at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans, it is the penultimate 935 built by the factory. It spent many years in the Lloyd Hawkins collection in the United States and still wears the iconic Interscope colours it raced with at Le Mans. Sold at auction in March of this year, it was quickly prepared for racing and first saw action at the Le Mans Classic. The 935/79 will now feature in the competitive CER2 field where it will be pitched against another 935, a Ferrari 512 BB LM and several BMW M1s.
