RM Sotheby's will look to build on the momentum of the hugely successful Monterey sale with the upcoming St. Moritz Auction. Due to cross the block in the Swiss Alps on Friday are just 22 automotive lots. The absolute headliner is this Bugatti Type 57 S Atalante Coupe, which is offered from a single ownership of nearly three decades. Fitted with engine '1S', it is the very first of the very rare Surbaissé or lowered Type 57s to leave the Bugatti factory. It was fitted with the iconic Atalante body-style complete with the roll-back roof. Originally sold to a French enthusiast, it was also owned by noted collectors Dr. Samual Scher and Mike Sparken. Now in Swiss hands for close to 30 years chassis 57384 has been regularly shown and used; it comes complete with a 2022 Swiss highway toll vignet. RM Sotheby's believe the rare Bugatti will find a new owner for over CHF 10 million.
Another fascinating car in the sale is this Williams FW12C Renault. Based on the Judd-engined FW12 raced with little success in 1988, the FW12C is the first in a long line of increasingly dominant Renault-engined Williams Grand Prix cars. One win was scored in 1989 by Thierry Boutsen, while the consigned FW12C/10 finished just shy of the podium twice. Even though it is offered with a non-running engine, it still has a CHF 1.25 - 1.75 million estimate.
