At next week's Gooding Amelia Island Auctions Ferraris will take centre stage. Leading the way is this 250 GT SWB California Spyder, which has had just two owners since 1973 and now has a $18 - $20 million estimate. The earliest Ferrari consigned is this 250 MM Vignale Spyder. Raced in Italy and Brazil in period, it has been part of the collection of the late Jess G. Pourret, who was one of the foremost Ferrari historians. Another competition Ferrari on offer is this $6 - $8 million 250 GT Tour de France. It was sold new to a Swiss racer and has more recently been restored for a prominent American collector. We were also very taken by the lovely preserved 500 Superfast and 275 GTB/4.
Of all cars consigned, our favourite is this Eagle Mark 1; the very first car produced by Dan Gurney's All American Racers. Among the most beautiful Grand Prix cars built, this one was originally powered by a Coventry Climax engine and spent most of its life in the Donnington Grand Prix Collection.
Over the weekend, Alpine took the wraps off the A523 Formula 1 car. Due to make its on-track debut later this week, it will be driven by an all-French driver line-up.
