    2006 Mercedes Benz S-Class w221

New Mercedes s-class: small May brook
With the successor of the s-class, which optically particularly at the tail style elements of the May brook flagship carries, Mercedes wants again all registers of Swabian engineer technology to draw and particularly on the areas security and environment form itself. Premiere: to the IAA in the autumn 2005.
Therefore - not from the outset, but at least in the course of the seven-year-olds construction period - also hybrid drive in the new s-class introduction is to hold. A concept of the technology was to be already seen on the last IAA in form of a 3,7-Liter-V6-Benzin-Hybriden with 180 KW (245 HP) plus two electrical motors with 30 KW (41 HP) and 25 KW (34 HP), connected by clutches.

Particularly with view of possible new exhaust laws in the USA Mercedes works on the series employment of this low-pollution technology and reproaches also still another V8-Diesel with hybrid drive, which was introduced in the luxury Offroader GST and into the new s-class would if necessary likewise fit.
New eight cylinder engines with four-valve technology
Conservative s-class-drivers, who trust only combustion engines, will come naturally further at their expense: With the SLK 350 and the filter course mechanism Mercedes presented a straight engine/gear combination, which will act in the future with the s-class at the basis - from the sales start at the end of on of 2005.

Eight-cylinder customers must take for the time being with the well-known engines before dear, because the Vierventil-V8-Generation comes only 2006/2007, then however with gasoline direct injection and larger capacity.

Performance-related is everything in it with Mercedes? if the problem with the transmission were not there. The V12-Biturbo could put far more than 612 HP to the day, but the associated torque increase would require an expensive and complex transmission adaptation, which might hardly have to be justified for the small numbers of items.

Thus it will remain probably provisional with 612 HP, a value, which fits starting from 2005 by the way also finally for the May brook, which is to be had so far only in the 550 HP version.
Pre pre-Safe of the second generation
With the new s-class-generation Mercedes starts a large safety campaign and fulfills naturally also the then valid European-wide guidelines to the pedestrian protection: In the case of a collision the hood within the rear range sets up itself suddenly around approximately eight centimeters.

Pre Safe phase two covers a refinement of the well-known system (with danger of accident automatic closing of the sun roof, list of the backrests, rationalisation of the belt), in addition a much more thought out Distronic function (Abstandsregeltempomat) with higher delay values comes.

The electrohydraulical brake SBC from e-class and SL is not used in the s-class. A resolution, which was already seized before long time, because the system is too expensive and too susceptible. All its functions can be realized meanwhile also with conventional brake.

Stilistisch reminds the new s-class particularly within the tail range a little of the May brook? Mercedes considers thereby after more Repraesentativitaet to the demand for customer. The body dimensions change however only slightly. Further it will give the s-class also as long version. All-wheel drive will be from the outset available this time.

In the interior in the future again classical round instruments dominate. The value seeming is to be increased clearly. The Comand system is cleared out by redundant functions and the menu guidance is simplified. Among other things there is to be a escape-Taste. The operation is to be facilitated also by a Touch PAD in such a way specified in the center console.

Bangle isn't designing cars anymore, Adrian Van Hooydonk is in charge...

BMW have a real big problem, just because Bangle caused a bit of controversy, everyone is now convinced that any car BMW produces is a "Bangle" when it isn't.
    Thanks for all the fish

Looks very Lexus/Infiniti, new Mercedes designs are cheaper looking, seems like the taste of top tier car buyers is getting less sophisticated so in turn the designs get dumbed down for the masses.

I guess that's bound to happen since more and more people can afford these cars.

I think that was a PR move to make people think Bangle isn't designing anymore, he's just more behind the scenes now but still designing.

Please tell me you don't think that Bangle sits alone in his office and after a few days emerges with the new 3 series or whatever

The task of designing the cars is a team effort.
For one model, several different initial concepts will be done by several different designers, then one will be chosen for further development.
There are different groups of designers working on different aspects of the cars, detailing, interior, exterior etc.

Bangle is now in charge of all BMW's design studios:
    BMW automobiles
    M Sport
    BMW Motorbikes
    MINI
    Rolls Royce

Whilst Van Hooydonk may still be involved in the actual designing, Bangle has much more of a managerial role, overseeing the work and making sure it fits in with BMW's design strategy etc.
    Thanks for all the fish

Eventhough Hooydonk designed most of the 6 and 7 series the hideous trunk design is Bangle's, and that's what I dislike most along with many other former BMW admirers. Whether he is 'managerial' or not doesn't mean his goofy elements will be absent from the final designs.

There is 3 people on a boat with loads of children running around it, the 3 people are: 1. Bob geldof, 2. Ozzy Osbourne, and 3. Micheal jackson, they're sailing out for the G8 live aid, they've hit a rock and they're sinking, bob says: "save the children!" ozzy says: "Fuc the children!"

Micheal says "have we got time?"

Yes, the rear is definitely Maybach and the pronounced front fenders are a miniature of the New Beetle's and the front lights can't decide whether they want to be a rectangle or oval or teardrop shape or whatever.
Strange....maybe they drink too much German beer while designing?? Or Schnapps?
The waistline is so high that small people will have difficulties looking through the side windows, children definitely will.

Does anybody know wether Murat Günak is still in charge? He did such a great job on the current s-class.
