The Audi S2 is a great car, but to me Audi will always lack a certain fineness against BMW, and I m not a fan of the us spec M3 crapy S50 B30 engine..

Audi S2 Quattro, I like its styling a little bit better, and plus I've always liked Audi's a lot.

    Tough choice...the Audi

I currently drive an S4, before buying it I tested the M3 and as you can tell I went for the Audi. I know you're talking about slightly older models but as far a performance goes, AWD wins out everytime!!! It's great to go fast in a straight line but zipping around corners is great fun too. Not the the M3 is a slouch at that mind you.

Audi. It'll win hands-down every time! It looks better, has a better top speed, with a little tweaking will better the Beemer's 0-60 scrabble and doesn't have an air of a pimp-mobile about it.....

The 1996 S2 has 230bhp lol not much difference I know but still...
I'd take the S2, probably cus I prefer Audi to BMW and the biggest contributing factor would be because my dad has one
Audi humbles Porsche. A new dawn starts today.

    Being nice since 2007.

I suppose it helps if you conduct a comprehensive test of both cars though- firstly, driving both the cars, which would include testing performance & comparison of handling. Then sitting in it (front and back) to test how comfy both are, the legroom, cabin quality, etc. Then price and desirability. If you view it objectively, then the BMW should win. Better space, performance, and desirability. Handling- the jury is still out on this, because I've yet to drive both. BUT! In some/many people's eyes the Audi is more desirable, has better cabin quality, comfier, and rarity will ensure good depreciation. But I prefer the Audi anyway...

M3, anything that the A2 can do the WRX can do better. Whereas M3 is a finesse machine.

isn't that a weak comparison? compare the e36 m3 to the S4 from then, and compare the S2 to something like a wrx...

The s2 would beat any WRX, especially if it's an RS2.

The sti would be another story.

Over here, the S2 has a much higher value than the M3...probably because it wasn't sold.

But i'd take the s2...awd, five cyl turbo, and you don't have to tint the windows and drive around playing techno music (that is required of m3 drivers, isn't it?).
    And Iraaaaaaaaaaaan

    Iran's so far awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay...

Ive been in an E46 M3 and besides the TV and Satellite Navigation, it wasnt that great. I dont know how it manages to do the acceleration times it does because it wasnt that terrifically quick.
