The SD 455 Trans Am was a sweet car, a friend's dad had one back in high school. The 70's TAs and Z28s were unspectacular to say the least. The SD 455 was made from 1968 to 1970 wasn't it??? I can't remember. What year was your's?

I'm not sure GM allowed the 455 in the Firebird un til '70 because the Gen 1's were too small. The Trans Am came out in '69 with I think a 400cid, then in '70 the Gen 2 came out with the 455 h.o. Jazz, is this your old car?

That looks just like the car my friends dad had. I'm gonna look into it, but the SD 455 TA was only a 1970 model now that I think of it.

I've been searching, and so far I've found out that the 455 were made in 1972 to 74. There were two versions the HO (high output) and SD (super duty) 455s. I've never been a Pontaic fan so I wasn't (and still not) sure of what years the 455 T/A were made. Anyone know for sure?

I found a really good website for all muscle cars, every thing you can think of. It has a really good history section. It says Pontiac had the 455 in '71 but it really had been toned down by then (455 c.i.: 335bhp, 480 lb.ft.). I never knew this, but the Ram Air V 400c.i. made 500bhp in '70!

here is the site: Muscle Car Club
