    Wanted: Photography Pointers

I'm heading over to Mallory park to go watch some motor racing tomorrow and I'm planning on taking my digital camera.

Only problem is I've never taken pictures of anything moving before and I'm not really sure the best way to go about it. I know it sounds obvious enough, but I've found the normal point and click often gives a rather poor result.

Should I focus on a point and then take a picture as the vehicle enters? Or should I follow the vehicle and click whilst panning? I'm such a photo newb, help!

I've never tried it either, but i think the best idea would be to focus on the point where you actually want to take the photo, like the apex of a bend, and then pan with the car as it comes toward the place, then snap when it's there, that way you should be in focus, with lots of nice background blur. In theory anyway...

It could be a good idea just to try snapping cars on a fairly fast road near you to try out/practise techniques.
