    Mine was unavoidable
Last year my mate and mates wife ( long story ) flew over and back and we went on the bikes. It was cheaper to fly from Douglas to Prestwick than it was for the ferry The Steampacket know they can sell the places so charge an arm and a leg !!
Where do you usually stay? Anywhere to recommend? Last year we stayed in the Union Mills campsite. In the field next to the road. Asbolutely brilliant, cos you could sneak through the woods between the field and the road and set up a chair trackside. Got a great view of all the classics coming around on the parade lap.
Brothers gto a place in Castletown, so we were best placed for hte classic shows on the Sunday - though a wee bit far out from the races. But excellent bus service and the wee man even woke us up from our drunken slumbers on the way home after a few at Bushys
Only problem was the practice runs. Sodding noisy Ducatis blasting past your tent at 6:00am when you've got a hangover. Not cool.
    Better than any alarm clock

BTW, sad, but here's the spot ......
Him, Joey and Barry will be finding who's best now ( unless they're all in hell and they have to ride Ducatis )

BUSHYS!!! That place rocked. I know it's pretty commercialised up for obvious reasons, but I was actually quite impressed by how many pubs and eating holes there are there. I'd actually like to spend a week there out of racing season just to check the island out. The bus service is excellent like you said, there's a stop on both sides of the road just outside the Union Mills, another good thing about it. I think I might stop there next year. It's a touch out of the way of the town, but it's trackside position, combined with the shop being just down the road, then the fact that there is a pub a minutes walk away thats trackside (can't remember what it was called though), makes for a great site. They do a mean hangover killing bacon sandwich all morning too. Damn fine place.

    Better than any alarm clock
...Cos a 300 decibel alarm clock is what everyone wants the morning after the night before...

BTW, sad, but here's the spot ......
Was there ever an answer to what actually happened? Cos I heard that nobody actually knew.

    Sadly no.

The fact is undisputed that a bike had blown up and was leaking oil near the spot. For whatever reason no oil flag was shown despite DJ being 3 minutes behind. DJ lost control whilst flat out at 180mph for the bend and hit the stone wall and then the telegraph pole on the oppoiste side of the road ( and some 100m further down the road ). This left wires strewn across the road which Jim Moodie ran in to at almost full speed seriously cutting his neck. I sa JM a couple of days later and his neck was a state !!

DJs dad has a site dedicated to DJ and his memory and his own report on the inquest is at http://www.davidjefferiesracing.com/...p?listall=true

The official inquest really produced no conclusions as it wasn't set up to do that ! Seemingly the clearing of the debris to let the sidecars practise meant the legal situation regarding any evidence was doubtful !!

Yep, probably only works out interesting for a bike rider who can imagine body position and knee down on the fast corners

But at the end of the day a lap of Nordschleife is 8-9 minutes of gray stuff with green at the edges and blue above - unless you're unlucky
At least it doesn't have cr@p music to try to make it 'interesting' and only succeeds in drowning out engine noises !!

    What did you expect ??

If I didn't know better, I'd swear he had it 90 degrees through Karussell. Fair play to him.

But think of the rider having to go sooo slow, it woudl be boring for him

No, Seriously, the Nordschleife is dangerous.
Anyone racing on a public day is a nutter.
This track has coaches doing 20mpg as well as sportscars and bikes doing 150+. Go back over the video, MANY corners are blind. For those and the blind brows imagine at which point you'd spot a stopped car or a coach going slow and do you think you coudl avoid it !! This is not a marshalled track. There's nobody else to look out for a stupid driver. The driver/rider has to be sensible.

Anyone who followed another vehicle at speed to "make a good video" is going to screw it big time and end up in the barriers.

There is a HUGE risk of the Nordschleife being closed due to the injuries and deaths. They have now banned on-board cameras and you are not allowed on track if you have timing gear or even a stopwatch !! Finding both these items still running in crashes has raised the spectre that they are contributory to the driver acting stupid.
