    MUSIC - Favourite Remakes

I used to be 100% against remakes, I have since changed my position in that some songs need to be updated, they need a second (or third) chance.

I had also discovered a band called [b]"Me First and the Gimme Gimmes"[b] a band made up of members from NoFX, Lagwagon and The FooFighters, they cover a lot of music from the '60's and '70's(totally unappealing) but add a punkish, rockin' beat - a new life to lifeless music.

Neil Diamond, Barry Manilow, Billy Joel (not Billie Joe from Green Day), Elton John and even the Beach Boys have been covered, and their songs which may/maynot have been good then are infinitely better covered by these guys.

Post your favourite remakes in this thread, name the artist covering and if possible the original artist.

A few off the top of my head include
    • Cradle of Filth covering Hallowed be thy Name (Iron Maiden)
    • Van Halen covering Pretty Woman (Roy Orbison)
    • Out of Your Mouth Covering Music (Madonna)
    • Marilyn Manson covering Sweet Dreams(Eurythmics)

Punk/Ska covers are awesome!! I have tons of them!

Me first and the gimme gimmes are pretty good doing punk covers.. A new found Glory too, but they lean a bit towards "Commercial music MTV style" which bothers me a bit but still I think they're good.

    I highly recommend:

A New Found Glory - Karate Kid (Peter Cetera Cover)

A New Found Glory - Everything I do I do it for you (Brian Adams cover)

Me First and the Gimme gimmes - Leaving on a jet plane

Busters - We are the champions (Queen)

I against I - I want to hold your hand (The Beatles)

That's it for now, there's plenty of more.. Use the terms "Punk cover" on kazaa and you'll get a bunch.

    Rock on!!

I found the Kylie Minogue Remake of Blue Monday to be an utter travesty. I hate her, and she ruined one of my Favourite songs.

Any Weird Al Yankovic remake of a song is funny.
EG: Michael Jacksons "Beat It" Becomes "Eat it".
they may sound crass, but remember, this is the man who managed to integrate "Absorbant and Yellow and Pourous" into the Spongebob Squarepants themesong.

I agree Kylie destroyed the song, I'm not a big fan of the original New Order version, but Orgy did an awesome cover

Thats the one. Go easy on Kylie. She started as a teenage soap star and built a creditable music career. Im not a fan of her music particularly (although we play two of her songs in our band (girl singer)) but when she started she was treated like a joke. Stock Aitken and Waterman took her for the same ride they do with all their young stars yet she persevered and has paid her dues. Much in the Madonna mould I would say.

I like both versions of the song (Major New Order Fan) but i do prefer the older version, if for the fact it's a techno song rather than a Metal song at my local CD Shop.

Any other butcherings we'd like to talk about? WHAT ABOUT ME.........

OK, top this for absolute worst cover ..... Tori Amos covering Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit.

If you haven't heard it download it, listen to it ..... curse the person who allowed it to happen, then relax and smile and think how good she looks, then delete the file and curse the person responsible again. At least thats what I did.
