As far as anyone involved knows, it's the highest horsepower SBC on stock internals ever. Detuned street version is 575whp. Best run, with smaller injectors than were ideal was 606whp.

My driver's ed teacher has a stock 04 Z06, he claims that it can beat challenge ferrari 360's, porsches, and bmw's, on the race track of course. Its quite a car.

But not usually THAT much.
Good on him if he can, but if so, what's he doing teaching driver ed ?
:cough: BS :cough: ?
See http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/powerlaps/ .. he's bloody good if he can make up 4-8 seconds a lap with only his driving skills. he shoudl apply to race in IRL/F1

That was the C6 with MSRC, not the perfomance Z51. And even with the perfomance Z51 suspension package (which improves not only handling, but acceleration, and braking) the Z06 is still faster... I would be surprised at all to see the Z06 take a 360 challange.
True, I dont' know all the details of the performance tungin and parts to imparove stock.Originally Posted by Slicks
Same is true for the 360 tho
I wasn't aware that the TG time wasn't the latest 'vette.
Are you saying the 2005 model is 8 seconds a lap faster ??????
That woudl be bloody impressive and kudos to Chevrolet if they do.
So which one was it R&T tested when they put out THS rank??
1. Ferrari 360 Modena
2. Lotus Elise
3. Porsche 911 Turbo
4. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII
5. Chevrolet Corvette Z06
All I do know for sure was their top 5 most exciting to drive for new 2005 cars was
1. Porsche Carrera GT
2. Dodge Viper SRT-10
3. Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster
4. Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
5. Lotus Elise
Now I'm not a great advocate of R&T on their comparison as any articles I've read tend not to have pushed the handling that severly and focus on the "ride comfort" side of things.
but willing to hear a clarification and further insight, Slicks.......

your first list includes a vette from 01-02 which ran with 385 hp and a diff suspension, you second list doesn't include the Zo6 as it is not an 05 model, which was a requirement for that list. There is no doubt in my mind that a 405hp from factory corvette with ultralight parts and a race ready suspension, which is what the zo6 was, could handle the ferraris with a good driver
That was the order in subjective ranking. Had nothing to do with which car was fastest on the track. The combined segment times were:Originally Posted by Matra et Alpine

2. Z06 (20.802)
3. Turbo (21.191)
4. Elise (21.200)
5. Evo (21.208)
And that wasn't even measured over the entire lap, just over two cornering segments. Judging by the Z06's entry and exit speeds, it was the fastest among the group on the straights. Not surprising, as the 385-hp Z06 has beaten the 360 Modena and Porsche Turbo on previous occasions.
And that was the '02 Z06 tested by R&T. The '04s have better shocks, same ones used on the Commemorative Edition Z06, which has lapped Gingerman Raceway in 1:33's. About the same as C&D managed with the 360CS (1:34.19). Any difference between these two comes down to the driver IMO.
That's true, I spoke a guy who has one and raced alot with it. He uses the bigger Porsche brakes on the vette. Did some engine modifications up to 500hp. He beats them allOriginally Posted by johnnynumfiv

Problem in comparing NON-stock is you can make ANY car fast.
Check out Top Gear's "Lotus" Lada !!!! http://www.leonboot.com/ladalotus/
In any motorsport, the 'winner' is invraibly the guy who can spend the most money on whatever vehicle he/she choses to race. It's a reflection of the tuning and handling mods MUCH more than of the starting vehicle.

Yes indeed you can, and you can race in several ways with cars. I drove some pretty fast cars, but there is no subtitute for Cid. If you wanna go really fast you need a big engine.Originally Posted by Matra et Alpine

Depends on the track and the format of the racing.
You want to EXPERIENCE fast ? get into a Radical S3 on a track and let rip
Weight is a BIG substitute for cubic inches. With less, you need less !!!!!

he's been racing for years mainly scca and nhra, he was a teacher at a highschool, so he had to teach drivers ed, retired and now does it on his own. I'm going racing with him this weekend at Lime Rock, I'll get some pics.
