    Jeremy Clarckson's background...

Since Top Gear is a very popular show with many members here, I was wondering what Jeremy Clarckson's background really is? Is he qualified in any way to give an oppinion on whether a car is good or not? What about the other two guys that are on the show? Can't remember their names right now.

Well, it's his opinion. He may be biased, but he still does give good opinions. And he's the funniest motoring journo, IMHO.

Jeremy Clarkson's background... he told us in Motorworld... he became a motoring journo on Top Gear after he sat next to the producer at a party, apparently. That's what he said.

    Jeremy Clarkson

Jeremy Clarkson first presented BBC’s Top Gear in 1989, and after a break of almost four years is back on the programme this year with his well known, forthright opinions.

Jeremy trained as a journalist on the Rotherham Advertiser. He developed a liking for cars in 1977 when he passed his driving test at the wheel of his grandfather’s ‘R’ Type Bentley. After his reporter training, Jeremy decided to combine his writing skills with his interest in cars and formed the Motoring Press Agency in 1984.

As well as contributing to most specialist car magazines over the years - he was columnist for Performance Car from 1986 to 1993 - Jeremy has written for Esquire and currently has a weekly column in the UK daily, The Sun, and two columns a week in the Sunday Times newspapers, as well as contributing to BBC Top Gear Magazine.

In 1993, Jeremy presented Clarkson’s Star Cars and in 1995 and 1996 he fronted two six-part series of Jeremy Clarkson’s Motorworld. In January 1998 he presented Jeremy Clarkson’s Extreme Machines and in 2000, Clarkson’s Car Years.

As well as his motoring programmes Jeremy has presented a wide variety of programming. In 2001 he wrote and presented Speed, he also had his own chatshow, Clarkson, and most recently he presented Meet The Neighbours. In Great Britons this October, Jeremy makes the case as to why he believes Isambard Kingdom Brunel is the Greatest Briton of all time. Arguing that he is the greatest because he 'built the world we live in' he hopes to convince viewers to vote for him against stiff competition from the other Britons shortlisted in the top ten.

He is author of four books - Jeremy Clarkson’s Motorworld, Clarkson on Cars, Jeremy Clarkson’s Hot 100 and Born To be Riled, a collection of his Top Gear magazine and Sunday Times columns - as well as the video series Best of Motorworld. Other video titles include Jeremy Clarkson Unleashed, Motorsport Mayhem, Apocalypse Clarkson and Extreme Machine, and he has another video out in the autumn No Limits.

Jeremy lives in the Cotswolds with his wife Francie, and their three children Emily, Finlo and Katya.

Ive been a life long fan, of him and his programs, Their great.
Hes funny, true, bias, big headed. Just like me!

I try and watch every program hes in when i can, the greatest thing ive seen him attemp is sitting in a helicopter with mini guns on each side, in a desert shooting a Vette to death!!

I preferd him in the older days. But still prefer him to the hamster and the posh git today.

I think the current trio on Top Gear are a great match for each other, and having the three of them on there make it a better show than if it was just Clarkson. Need someone to disagree with him, for one thing.

Low-tech, low thought, american (which is a dirty word in the car industry, in general) cars, that don't represent much in the way of innovation or technology. Though if you tossed the keys to one at me, I wouldn't be throwing them back.

From reading this, I gues JC has experience to know what he's talking about. I thinks he's funny as some of you have mentioned, and oppinionated...I guess that's my only problem with him, his objectivity. pimento is right, the current trio makes TG entertaining, and it's nice to see someone disagree with JC.

Aside from Jeremy Clakson, who would you like to see as host of TG? If there was an American version, I'd like to see someone like Carol Shelby (a few years younger), Jack Roush or even Steve Saleen. John Ligenfelter would have been a good choice but he's not with us anymore

I like him, have done since I first got a subscription to Performance Car back in 1989 when I was fourteen.

As mentioned, rather than what some people think Jeremy IS a motoring journalist, with a great deal of experience, so I guess his opinions are as valid as anyone elses. Tiff Needell WAS a top line racing driver (F1, GT etc etc) so I guess his opinion is as good as anyones too.

Cant see what all the fuss is about personally.

i guess not having any of the formentioned facts, clarkson comes across as i said - a witty tv presenter. however now i will take his subjective opinions with a little more credibility. i still love top gear regardless and think that jc is a good host...
