You know, if BMW had called this a 3 series hatchback, I'd be okay with it. Cars in the past used to come in multiple configurations- take a look at the Datsun 510- that came in a coupe, a sedan and a pickup.

The Corvair came in van, sedan, coupe, and convertible versions.

I don't care much about the Gran Turismo, but I'm way more ok with a hatchback. I think I just didn't like BMW for carving out a stupid niche and naming things for marketing purposes.
