i knew caterhams werent african, i just meant replicars. and while they do own the rights to the 7, i still think of it as a replica, or more like an evolution. and the superformance car has some slightly different proportions and shapes than the original too. so i would classify them together.

there's actually an egyptian car company that builds cars around fiat chassis and engine layouts. the cars arent too bad...untill you get to the styling which couldn't be any blander. roughly translated the name is pronounced Nissr
Don't bother me, I'm probably working while posting...

no, you cant count it as one of those.

most of the african/middle eastern car industry is based on foreign car makers making use of the cheap costs and opening factories in the region. Any thing from Dacias and Lada to Mercedes and BMW can be found produced there. Usually with about 10-20% of the components being locally manufactures. Things like the chairs, mirrors, switches . . . all non technical ofcourse.

no, i dont think its funny.

Iran has a sort of car industry, I recently saw a Proton like small car in Kazakhstan. Forgot the name. They used to produce a Hillman Hunter derivative. They also built RWD Peugeot 405's
BMW used to produce cars in South Africa, and may be GM also has a facility there.
Old Peugeots 505's are produced in Nigeria, there were quite a few around.
Turkey has a sort of industry, which has poured out old fiat 131's as the Dogan, a very popular taxi.

These areas of the world will not develop a sustainable industry. 95% of the people have no money to buy a car, and the 5 or even less% wealthy will show off by buying a prestigous european/Japanese or US car. These people don't want to be seen in a locally built car.

They are assembled by Hi Tech Automotive in South Africa, due to the cheap labour, before being shipped to the UK to have the engines fitted.

    They aren't an African company.
    Thanks for all the fish

no, i meant if israel is arabian or african (its disputed what continent its on, europe, africa or asia) and to fit on this thread, i just put that in so it wouldnt seem out of place

Well, there was s full stop i beleive !! Plus, what you described is applicable to the current situation but how do u know it wont change !?!

And, CdocZ, i have never heard about Israel being mentioned as belonging to the African continent. i knoe its sort of disputed weather its really asian or european, this has to be the first time i heard african though.
plus, they dont speak arabic so they are also not arabian and thus they are out of place in this thread !! But no, i wont turn this into the new version of the politics thread, so i guess its ok to discuss Israel's car market here if u want.
