Amazing car. Saw one prototype on a campsite in Austria (of all places). I didnt get a photo before it was covered up unfortunately. Loved the design though (as far as that was visible).

For this most sophisticated BMW ever, prices start at eyebrow-raising 126,000.

BMW hasn’t mounted an engine amidships since the M1, but that’s where you’ll find the petrol engine, installed sideways and driving the rear wheels only via 6-speed automatic. It is a reworked version of the 1.5-litre turbocharged triple you’ll find in a new Mini Cooper.

Second bit of i8 powertrain technology is a front mounted electric motor driving front wheels through two speed automatic. In theory, this gearbox is controlled in harmony with the primary engine and gearbox.

Tires are narrow, resulting an early breakaway in slow corners followed by incessant understeer on a loaded throttle.

As usual, 2+2 seats with mid-engine layout translates to uninhabitable rear seats.

Apparently battery charge can affect handling quite significantly.

The i3 may be less BMWish, but it is more interesting.

Howcome? Unlike i8, i3 is a conventional electric car.

That being said - i3 is the first electric car that got my attention, so it must be doing something right.

It is not that conventional. It's a sort of modern take on the Audi A2.

Also, isn't it the first affordable full carbon fibre car?

I wouldn't call it "full carbon fibre car".

i3 carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic body shell rides on an aluminum-frame lower chassis, unlike, Alfa 4C carbon-fibre tub for example.

But fair enough, i3 chassis is anything but conventional.

Ouch, you must really want the BMW if you shell out that much for it. There's a lot of very nice rides in that price range.

Not sure why you'd buy a sports car, and then get "narrow" tires. Beats the purpose of the car for sure.

Looks glorious. Specs and performance figures dont seem to match the appearance though. Stick a V8 in it for Christs sake.
