    Foreign Interests

I was thinking lately on how people from a country other than my own think about certain cars. For Example, most americans that are car fans, would love to have Ferrari, or Porsche or a Lambo. Note that these are all Foreign made cars... So what do people from other countries think? do they say, "oo i want a Viper", or "a Corvette would be so cool to have!"

I just wanna hear from both sides, and i obviously know that most foreign cars are better than american cars, but is it the fact that its from another country make you want it?

Oh jeeze. You're not gonna like what most people on UCP are gonna say about American cars.

I like the Corvette and the Viper, which are the only sportscars that we get. The problem is that I don't think they fit in our roads, or are practical enough because of the size... The 300C has a similar problem (but I like the SRT-8).

About the "normal" american cars, I'd rather walk than drive one.

American Cars are, from experience, reasonably robust.

    That's the plus point.

I'll leave the negatives to someone with less tact than myself.

Okay, you walk while I enjoy my luxurious Cadillacs and my (21 mpg) Lincoln Town Car.

I was thinking of the Dodge Caliber while I wrote that.

Oh, I get it. I'd still rather have that than something like a "New Beetle" or a "Smart for Two."

Well we don't do everything perfectly...

But we have many other family hatchbacks that are so much better than the Caliber.

Have you got any real experiences with it ?

Especially the Smart is a great car for the tight city centres of Europe. No problems with parking it either because you can fit two on one parking spot.

My opinion about US cars is generally that they are big and are bigger drinkers then me on a weekend. The interiors are not so good and the ride is totally unsuitable for European driving situations.

Nothing beats a Citroën anyway, everyone could better stop trying and start building Cit's

    ROFL.

You would be walking Fleet when your "town car" got stuck on roads like THIS

As stated, different roads, different cultures, different "ideal" cars !!!

The culture difference is key. Am I right to say that most Americans (maybe not you reading this) would be happy doing the same speed all day and not care that you cant control the gears manually and also be happy with a car thats designed to not last as long as it should. Many mid stream american cars "feel" disposable. They have to be cheap for a reason. I dont want to put the (wrong) words in the mouth of any Americans but arent older, traditional influences frowned apon by most? Have I been watching too much "the good the bad and the ugly" by JC ...yes!

In Italy however no-one just drives anywhere, they dont just listen to the radio or see driving as a chore, instead the enjoy the experience of driving and revel in it. Forget the italian supercars, when a small car is released in Italy its a huge affair, small cars are to Italy what the crown victora is to NYC.

with the local roads, i don't really mind. i like the Z06 and most 90's japanese stuff. american stuff of the same vintage i dislike.
euro cars usually fall under the 'nice to drive, not to own' category (supercars being one obvious exception, E30 M3 EVO the other..)

No, no we dont. Most people want Ferraris and Porsches because of their racing history, notoriously well built mechanics, and, like the Lambo, they look good...

I have to disagree with that. For what a Smart costs you could get a real car...

Exactly. I might as well just ride a bicycle if it came to the point I had to consider owning a Smart.
